2.28.2009, Infinion Raceway, NCK Road Racing

After our November event at Infinion we are eager to take on Sears Point again!

Dan took some much needed time off to let his ribs heal and to build a new 2009 Birel R31 chassis after destroying the last chassis at Infinion in November. He was out of his kart through out December and January with a February 1st, target date to start running again. The first couple practice sessions at the Prairie City race track were short so not to aggravate his ribs and to start slowly conditioning from the time off due to the injuries he received in November at Infinion.

The ITS Motorsports Team brought the new 2009 Birel, R31 chassis, along with a different approach, to Infinion this weekend and we feel it really payed off.

Plain and simple, finish the races we enter and don't worry about our position at the end. Some coaching from team mates and California Kartworlds Bill McCallister brought the event into prospective for all of us. Lindsey Browning, Novembers event winner and fellow Birel team mates, Kerry Matthews and John Chandler, gave Dan some great pointers and were eager to offer some tips on specific areas of the track which was very helpful.

The event started for us with the morning novice practice and then the open practice for all karts following that. Some changes in the NCK Road Racing procedures regarding the practice sessions seemed to really help settle the novice drivers down before the track opened for all classes of karts. The new 2009 Birel R31 chassis performed really well and responded to every adjustment we made by rewarding Dan with faster and faster lap times each time he ran it. ITS Motorsports Crew Chief Terry Minton and California Kartworlds Bill McCallister had the entire Birel team ready early for every session through out the days events.

ITS Motorsports driver of the 98 kart, Dan Levens, was entered into multiple classes for this event so having a day with minimal problems was a relief. The first race was a LeMans style start from a dead stop on the starting grid. When the green flag was waved the TaG karts struggled to get going due to the gearing used for the road race event. Dan got a great start and held on through the first lap before getting over taken by the top qualifiers of the day. The race went thirty minutes and Dans time improved each lap with a much needed third place result. Once again fellow Birel team mate Lindsey Browning finished first!

Thanks for the interest in our team and we hope you check in often for our race postings as the 2009 ITS Motorsports race season progresses.

Our next stop will be Prairie City Kart Club season opener, March 15, 2009 at the Prairie City SVRA race track. Hope we see all of you there!
